About me

Some bite-sized facts:

I derive sincere joy from color-coded excel sheets. I relish finding hyper-specific niche genres I’ve never heard of before. I’ve been in love with television since infancy, and unpopular opinion: Long walks on the beach really cramp my calves.

I bring my passion for narrative to everything I do. I believe people have stories to tell and there’s something to learn from each one. I’m happiest when I’m collaborating, and thrive in diverse environments filled with a varied array of experiences.

For my secret inquirer…

HOW DID YOU GET INTO WRITING?

I often joke with my peer and collaborator, composer Sarah Palermo, about my previously stark lack of qualifications as a writer when she first asked to work with me. My knowledge of musical theatre was anecdotal at best and she had never read anything I had written, partly because I didn’t have anything for her to read. In the moment it felt like going from no experience at all to writing a 16k word script for a two-hour production, uphill both ways, barefoot through the snow… But that’s not quite what actually happened.

In hindsight, my interest in stories, satire, and writing in general reaches as far back as any other surviving aspect of my personality. I had hoards of imaginary friends as a child and quickly became an avid young reader. In the sixth grade alone I wrote nearly two hundred (horrible) poems, filling my infamous and beloved composition notebook, one of which was published in the kid’s corner of the local paper. When it came time to select a college and everyone I knew was being barraged by formulaic letters from hundreds of schools, I retaliated by mocking them in a letter of my own. Even though I was never the one writing a novel and I’m still not, writing has always been a natural, knee-jerk reaction of mine. At this point, I’m asking myself how I can get further into writing.

WHAT ARE SOME WORKS OF FICTION THAT HAVE HAD AN IMPACT ON YOU?

One of my all-time favorite books is Anna Karenina, and I will forever be channeling and emulating Tolstoy’s storytelling techniques. But before I prompt more eye rolls for picking a brick as my favorite book, I have to admit that the writers who have changed the way I consume fiction, how I think about my own stories, and ultimately who I am as a human being, are television writers Tim Minear and Russell T. Davies.

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE COLOR?
Pink (obviously).
